NEWS ALERT SERVICE!
AWWA Regulatory Alert and Information Request
The American Water Works Association (AWWA)
and the Association of
Metropolitan Water Agencies
(AMWA) are soliciting water system information
on the Stage
2 Disinfectants and Disinfection
By Products Rule to help
USEPA as it prepares for rule
implementation.
Specifically USEPA is looking
for information from consecutive
water systems**. Some
of these consecutive systems
may
be smaller and may
find themselves required to
act more quickly to initiate
the IDSE monitoring provisions
than if they were a
stand-alone system.
This smaller system
impact really drives the need
for wholesalers to have a
comprehensive IDSE that
includes the agencies that
they wholesale water to. An
Information
Request Response Form
has been prepared and AWWA
requests that it be turned
in by June
1.
**A Consecutive Water System
exists when one Public Water
System (PWS) supplies water
to one or more other PWS's.
This
type of water system may be
either a CWS, a NTNC or a TNC
water system. A common
situation involving
Consecutive Water Systems is
when one system, called a bulk
water supplier, supplies water
to other PWS's. In
many cases, States may require
the bulk supplier to be
responsible for
monitoring/treating the source
water and the system(s) that
receives the water to be
responsible for
monitoring/maintaining the
distribution system that
carries the water to the
customer.
